Sweater season is in full swing and it’s time to embrace the trend. Go bold with the color, fun prints, or opt for super soft texture. If you are really looking to make a statement find one that encompasses all three. With many designers looking to make room for their spring collection winter luxury is heavily discounted. I was instantly drawn to this pieces because of it’s color and once I touched it I had to have it.
The most wonderful time of the year is upon us! Christmas season is my all time favorite because people seem to genuinely be in a better mood, the seasonal holiday dishes, and I get to layer up my fashion. Aaaaaand if I’m being completely honest I absolutely love a good “Ugly Sweater”.
Lately, I've been bouncing from meetings to errands aka "adulting" and instead of wardrobe changes on those days, I'll make it a comfy luxe day. Pairing high-end sneaker with sweatpants or relaxed denim and a silky button down. The look is perfect because it still shows style to potential clients and also practical for hopping in and out of Ubers.
It’s a new year and that means new and exciting pieces must be added to my wardrobe. Most recently, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the über stylish men’s boutique Bleu Gents located in Oceanside. I definitely understand why some guys may think bespoke is a bit overwhelming, which it can be without the right help
The denim jacket has been a wardrobe staple for many decades and will continue to be relevant for many years to come. It’s versatile, comfortable, and like any great piece gets better with age. There aren’t many things I love to be oversized however, this is definitely one them.
Only 5 more days until we welcome 2018! What better way to say hello to another year than by doing so while paying homage to an icon, right?! The Smoking Gun is having a Purple Rain Party where patrons will dance the rest of 2017 away in style.
Just another day in the hipster area of San Diego known as North Park. I had the pleasure of shooting again with the talented Ross Jordan. This gorgeous mural created by artist Mad Steez was the perfect complement to my tribal inspired shirt.
This past weekend was beyond epic at KAABOO! It was my first and most definitely not my last time. KAABOO took over the Del Mar fairgrounds for a weekend of iconic artist, top chefs, and premium vendors. I'm not one to name drop, but how can't I when I was able to rock out to Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Fall Out Boy, Steve Aoki, and Ludacris to name a few.
With fall quickly approaching it's time to start thinking about new lids! Rotate your straw fedoras for wool blends and wide brims. Goorin Bros Gaslamp offers both style and variety to help step your hat game up. True style lies in the details and that's especially true when it comes to hats.
Summer time is here and the temperature isn't the only thing rising! Currently I'm having a love affair with cropped trousers. For the guy who is under 6ft this look helps to elongate, adding 1-2 inches and creating a more lean leg. Menswear designers have finally started realizing that men need a pant that translates from the office and beyond
Locals and visitors to the East Village neighborhood can now enjoy sharable plates, draft beer and a lineup of innovative cocktails, all in the cozy confines of WhipHand American Brasserie + Beer Bank. I had a chance to check it out and it’s exactly what was missing in East Village. WhipHand aims to let customers take the experience into their own hands through 24 self-serve draft beers taps, along with a full cocktail bar serving up some unique libations.
Let the countdown to 2019 begin! Brace yourself for the hundreds of obligatory “Do Better”, “New Goals”, and “New Me” post on social media. For the past two NYE I’ve found that it’s best to keep it intimate and I plan on keeping that tradition alive this year. Why stand in absurd lines, both to get inside the club and again at the bar once inside, when you can spend that time enjoying those closest to you.
I can’t believe we are just 4 days away from Christmas and 10 days away from the New Year. We are in the home stretch of the holiday season and if you’re anything like me, the idea of cooking a huge meal just seems like a daunting and unnecessary task. So this year I’ve decided to let the professionals do the cooking and the dishes
A couple summers ago I managed to spend a week in the beautiful city of New Orleans. It was my first time down there and I immediately fell in love with everything about it. Talk about a city busting at the seams with culture.
After months of anticipation I was finally able to enjoy an evening of dining at San Diego’s first Omakase-only sushi spot, Hidden Fish. The concept is that guest will be able to enjoy a 30 min 12 piece or 90 min 18 piece omakase (meaning I’ll leave it up to you) menu.
Last night was the monthly supper club hosted by Prohibition in the heart of downtown San Diego. Each month they host the dinner in partnership with a spirit brand. This month the 4-course meal was paired with Jagermeister based cocktails.
I haven’t been this excited about a new restaurant opening in San Diego in a while. Sushi is one of the few types of food I’d happily eat every night! While there is no shortage of great sushi places, Hidden Fish raises the bar with its authentic Japanese style timed dining.
Greystone has stolen my heart and become the best steakhouse I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at. Yes, that is quite a bold statement I know, but the high touch service, menu selection, ambiance, and damn good food allow for me to say so. As a man who enjoys his whiskey I opted for an Old Fashionioned to start the evening off
Point Loma is anchored by some of the best seafood in San Diego and thanks to its newest member Point Loma Fish Shop, the selections just got even better! With an amazingly warm staff and one of the tastiest menus around, they are the perfect addition to city.
Kaaboo has graced the beautiful city of Del Mar with its presence once again. The annual festival is filled with both musical and visual artists, comedians, and chefs. Now in it’s 4th year it was completely sold for the first time ever, which is a huge feat.
I've been spending more time in LA lately which actually hasn't been a bad thing. So when I got the invite for the opening of Wolf & Shepherd's first store I had to put it in my schedule. The brand did not disappoint with their brick and mortar. The location was perfect and the design was sleek and flawless.
YAAAAASSSSSSSS! San Diego Pride has come and gone and I survived it. This Pride was particularly special because I got to spend it with my BFF and also raise money for a great cause. Park & Rec let us take over their back bar in partnership with Ilegal Mezcal to raise money for AIDS Foundation. Arlene and I have both known people who have been affected by this epidemic so it made deciding on the charity easy.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Summer Kick Party at Del Mar Highlands hosted by Where Magazine. I figured it would be the standard cocktails, lite bites, and mixing of social influencers and media people. To my surprise the format was scavenger hunt style, hell yeah! The guest list was influencers and hotel/hospitality concierge. It was one of the best networking events I’ve been to in a while, because I got to meet so many people I didn’t know.
There are workout facilities and then there are wellness centers, AquaVie is undoubtedly the latter. In a city that’s been deemed “16th Most Fit” you can find a place to loose lbs every couple of blocks. However, at AquaVie they focus on the entire package, mind, body, and souls.
Dean Hall: What process do you use to develop your stand up material?
Josh Nelson: Most of my stand up comes from my everyday life. I take my experiences with my friends and family and I find the funny. Id say my comedy is observational and it is 95
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sharing a few gift ideas that will put a smile on her face. Whether she enjoys getting all dolled up or just lounging around the house there’s something she will love inside. Don’t delay anymore and order away!
I'm a fan of Mondays, unlike quite a few people I know. This past Monday was particularly interesting because of the release of Red Bulls Organics. They hosted a beautiful private dinner for media/influencers to try out the new 4 piece line. Bravo's Top Chef vet Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins created an exquisite menu paired with each organic beverage.
When it comes to fashion in San Diego it's safe to say that it is the land of major department stores and brands. However, there are a few boutiques that have really etched out a name in the community and You Know - Y is definitely one of them. Last week they had a spring fashion event that was sick AF! Brands like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Baja East x Melissa Beach, and Adidas X Stella McCartney were on hand for guest to shop.
Back in 2015 I took a little over a month off to travel Europe. During that time I hopped over to London for a day with my good pal Arlene (who shot these) . Most recently I was going through my laptop and found a few more that I never posted on the blog way back when. Since it’s Thursday i figured this would be the perfect day for a #throwbackthursay post. Enjoy!
Nothing recharges your battery like being whisked away for a wine weekend! Two weekends ago, I know I'm slightly behind, I was able to enjoy the Passport To Dry Creek in Sonoma. DISCLAIMER: I'm a Napa guy at heart, but I must say this was one of the best weekends I've had in a while.
Travel is hard enough so why not do it in style.
A relaxing vacation always sounds like a great idea, until you arrive only to create a self imposed itinerary. Well, not this trip it was all about being a free spirit and letting my heart guide the day. Thailand is known for being a very exotic yet affordable destination. My first stop in this beautiful country was Phuket, as I decided to stay more south this trip.
So it finally happened after years of talking about it! Santa Barbara has been on my radar for quite a while and not just because of Oprah, but for its secluded beauty. When my good friend Skyler invited me as a plus one to a wedding at the gorgeous Rancho Dos Pueblos, it was the perfect opportunity to explore the city.
Doing London in a day was definitely an overwhelming experience. The tube system reminded me of New York as it was very efficient and fairly easy to read the timetables. Once hopping off the train it was 3 hours of being a super tourist with stops to Big Ben, The London Eye, and Buckingham Palace.
Initially Germany was not on my radar, however about two weeks prior to leaving I kept getting this indescribable pull to go. Everyday I’d think about the various aspects of the country like the food, fashion , the history, and what it would be like to visit. My luvbug Shelly, said there’s a reason for this and don’t fight your intuition.
Of all the cities so far, it’s Barcelona that I could really see myself living in. Chill vibes by day, a booming night life, and tropical weather are the perfect reason for a relocation! Every city has their thing, San Diego being palm trees, New York has skyscrapers, and Barcelona has balconies. They beautifully decorated each apartment and in some cases are shared among neighbors.
Italy was intoxicating! 4 days was the perfect amount of time to sample all of what Rome has to offer. Of the sampling, it was the savory gelato in which I indulged on a nightly basis! Rome is a city that’s rooted in such deep heritage. It’s present in the small details of street signs to the glorious ruins of the Colosseum.
