Noshing At Nautilus Tavern
In a time where so many restaurants are fighting over the "prime" downtown location, only to realize they need much more than that to survive, Nautilus Tavern has opted to bring quality beachside. The design is very relaxed beachy with the perfect pops of color making it feel super modern. Lettuce cups normally bore me to sleep with their bland preparation and underwhelming presentation. However, after spotting two of my favorite words "spicy & seasoned" in the description, how could I not order them! A skillfully seasoned mix of chicken, edamame, green onions, cabbage, and rice noodles with a side of poke sauce. DELICIOSO! Chicken egg rolls were the perfect follow up item being chuck full of flavor wrapped in a flaky shell. While being quite tasty, it was the wasabi vinaigrette that took them to the next lip-smacking level! The wasabi dressing really opens up your palate to receive all the flavors and textures. When it comes to chicken wings I'm most critical of the sauce. Aaaaaaaand when I tell you Nautilus Tavern delivered in the sauce department OMG! Maple Bourbon Bacon glaze, you heard that correctly, that is out of this world. Have you ever been so full, but the food is just too good that you're basically force feeding yourself? Yeah, that was me with these wings! Whether it's after a midday surf or evening catch up with friends Nautilus Tavern is the perfect hidden gem in La Jolla.
